Three Visitors is a Jazz trio featuring Edward Simon, Scott Colley, and Brian Blade. For their debut album under their official band name, I was hired to design the covers for LP, CD, and digital release.
The band members communicated that they wanted a minimalistic design with a rustic, hand-made feel. They provided me with two drawings created by one of the band member’s wife. By itself, it was a very simple black and white art piece, so I added textures, framing, and customized lettering with a vibrant color. The result is a unique design that draws inspiration from the musical experimentation and jazz fusion composed throughout the album.

Challenge
I was tasked with designing Three Visitors’ debut album cover and single artwork, starting with a hand-drawn sketch by the drummer’s wife. The challenge was integrating this raw illustration into a refined, textured design while ensuring all titles, credits, and features fit seamlessly within the vinyl and CD templates. Additionally, I needed to create two single covers and animated visuals for all the artwork on streaming platforms.
Solution
I carefully extracted the original 'Three Figures' sketch, designed a custom textured background, and distressed a typeface to match the organic aesthetic. Using a grid on the back cover, I balanced the dense credits in a clean layout. I then illustrated two unique single covers and animated the artwork for immersive streaming visuals, bringing the album’s identity to life across multiple formats and platforms.
